26 March, 2024 – I have dreamed about studying abroad since I first started college in 2021. I have always wanted the opportunity to experience new cultures and travel. Finally, this year I have had the opportunity to do just that. The past couple months I have been living in London studying and interning for She Is You. It has given me so much opportunity to explore and develop my skills in a professional environment.

When I first arrived in London, it was an adjustment. I am used to living in a smaller college town in Missouri. Going from that to a big city was very different. But over the first few weeks of school and working, I began to fall in love with the city and feel comfortable. Working closely with Caroline at She Is You, has helped me see my strengths and areas I can work on. Caroline has been kind enough to let me work on such a wide variety of projects and I have been able to develop my professional skill set along the way.

Balancing my academics and internship responsibilities at She Is You presented its own set of challenges. Yet, as I navigated through these intricacies of time management and prioritization, I discovered resilience within myself. I found that I love feeling busy and filling my days up productively. It held me accountable and elevated how I use time each day abroad. I feel so fortunate that I am able to get this experience abroad and learn about how I deal with challenges. It taught me that staying focused on my goals and prioritizing what is important to me will help me face any challenge in the future.

One of the most profound lessons I have learned while being abroad is how important community is. While interning at She Is You, I have been able to see the love and support from the She Is You community. It is really amazing to see so many women with big goals and the drive to help others. Seeing the work that is put into each event and celebrating everyone’s accomplishments is truly inspiring. I have also learned the importance of community through my study abroad program at CAPA. I came here with nine other Missouri students, most of which I did not know prior. Over the last couple months I have been able to build such great friendships and I could not imagine doing this experience with everyone else. They have been a constant support system because we are all experiencing the same things. This community has felt like a home away from home.

Beyond my professional development and academics, studying abroad has allowed me to do a lot of personal development. I have been able to travel and learn more about myself and what makes me happy. During my time here I have been to Spain, France, Italy, Ireland, and still a couple more trips to go. I truly found my love for travel and experiencing new cultures. Through these travels, I have learned independence and that I like to push myself out of my comfort zone and learn new things.

As I reflect on this chapter of my life, I am filled with so much gratitude. I am so thankful for my parents who helped me get here, Caroline who has been an amazing mentor, and CAPA for connecting me with this opportunity. My time studying abroad and interning with She Is You has not only broadened my perspective but has made me committed to wanting to help others accomplish their biggest dreams. As I continue on this journey, I will carry all these lessons and experiences I have got from this opportunity.
