What is Mental Health?

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices, (Mental Health Gov, 2020).

Mental Health Awareness at She Is You

Mental health is very important to us at She Is You. We believe that even though sometimes we may have some down days, we also believe that when we are all psychologically and socially well, we are at our best.

This year at She Is You for Mental Health Awareness Week, we decided to team up with Nicole Leonne, a long-standing member of the She Is You community and Annabel Gold, Mind Health and Wellbeing Coach. Both women highlighted the importance of taking care of your mental health and wellbeing as well as sharing some practical tips on how you can do this.

Annabel Gold’s tips on Maintaining Good Mental Health:

  1. Embrace Nature

Go for a walk and pay attention to the world of nature…the sky, whether blue or grey, the plants, whether beautiful or strange, the creatures, whether cute or scary.

  1. Express your Thoughts

Write it – Draw it – Say it – This helps to offload some of the mental baggage we carry, positively affecting our wellbeing.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

Spend 5 minutes sitting in silence, eyes closed and direct all thoughts towards your breathing! No phone – No noise. This helps you to develop more awareness of the present moment!
